Chapter 1338: The Second Assesment

Four teachers would be accompanying the portal expedition, and while some of the students whispered that it might be overkill, Raze knew better.

This would be the first time most of the students had ever entered a portal dimension. Mages, especially those fresh to the experience, tended to get overexcited. They wanted to show off, to prove themselves, and that led to one thing: recklessness. Many would throw themselves into dangerous situations without thinking.

Sometimes, it was the opposite. The shock of the dimension would freeze them in place, paralyzing them with fear.

And with a group of twenty, there was always the risk that someone might wander off, or worse, get taken by a lurking beast.

That’s why three seasoned teachers were required for this type of task. And to top it off, a mage healer was joining them as well. If that wasn’t proof enough that the academy was expecting something to go wrong, Raze didn’t know what was.

Something always happens on these trips, he thought.

“Remember, this isn’t a contest!” Redrick announced as the group assembled. But after a brief pause, he scratched the back of his head and chuckled. “Actually… now that I think about it, it kind of is a contest. We’re not picking all of you, only the top twenty will make it, haha!”

Panla gave him a sharp side-eye.

What kind of pep talk is that?Pubfuture Ads

she thought, sighing as she stepped forward to fix the messaging.

“We won’t be assessing you based on how many beasts you take down or how flashy your spells are,” Panla explained clearly. “What matters is your adaptability. Your awareness. There are a number of criteria we’re cross-referencing.”

Her eyes swept over the students with stern warning.

“No one try to be a hero. Don’t try to stand out. In a dimension, all our lives are on the line.”

A few more important details followed. The students were told they’d need to stay within a fifty-meter radius of the teachers at all times, and more importantly, remain in visual range. There would be no exceptions.

As they waited for transport, a large vehicle descended from the sky, its sleek metallic body glowing faintly with magical energy. It looked like a bus, only far more advanced, floating down smoothly on magic-powered thrusters.

The students from Pagna stared in awe, jaws practically hitting the ground.

Yolden smirked as he caught one of them frozen in wide-eyed shock.

“What’s wrong? You guys come from the countryside or something?” he teased. “Even they’ve got crop-harvesting machines with magic tech. Sometimes your reactions really confuse me.”

“I’ve seen one before!” Liam blurted out quickly, as if trying to defend his pride. “I just haven’t seen one this nice.”

In Pagna, they’d heard of artifacts and high-level techniques that allowed warriors to fly. Some even trained to replicate that through movement arts. But seeing something so refined, capable of carrying a large group without a single technique being used, it was awe-inspiring.

Once onboard, the transfer students and top-ranked students headed toward the back of the vehicle, settling in for the ride. The seating was two to a row, meaning everyone would have a partner.

Chiba plopped down next to Beatrix without hesitation.Pubfuture Ads

“We drew names, remember?” Chiba grinned. “So it’s all fair. We’re sitting together.”

Yolden and Piba were just ahead of them, clearly positioned to keep things relaxed between the different groups.

Meanwhile, Dame and Liam were paired up, probably a wise decision in case Liam started mouthing off to someone from the academy.

As for Raze… he found Safa sitting beside him, a warm smile lighting up her face. It had been a while since the two had been in close proximity like this, and there was a quiet comfort between them that didn’t need words.

“So where are we going exactly?” Liam asked aloud, leaning into the aisle. “Are we heading straight to the portal?”

“Nope,” Chiba answered, overhearing him. “First, we’re heading to the guild.”

She turned slightly in her seat so everyone behind her could hear.

“The academy often collaborates with guilds for things like this. They’re the ones who control and manage access to certain portal dimensions. Each guild owns rights over specific ones they’ve claimed.”

There was a clear distinction between how things worked in Pagna versus Alterian.

In Pagna, portals appeared randomly, phenomena that burst into existence across the land. Because the crystals and resources found inside were so valuable, nearby clans would fight over ownership. Whoever was closest usually claimed the portal for themselves.

But in Alterian, many portals were deliberately opened. With magic.

Using beast crystals, mana, and complex magic circles, a guild could force open a dimensional gateway. It was the same technique Raze had used back when he first arrived in Pagna… only, back then, he had no idea wherePubfuture Ads

his portal had led.

Here, the guilds had full control.

“They wouldn’t send us through a hard one… right?” Yolden asked cautiously.

“Who knows,” Piba shrugged, not sounding reassured in the slightest. “Wiliton Academy’s pulling out all the stops this year. Guess they really want to make a name for themselves against the Central Academy. They even switched guild partners to aim for a higher-tier dimension.”

That comment didn’t go over well.

Several students exchanged worried glances. They had been hoping for something manageable, a lower-difficulty dimension where they could showcase their talents.

But the transfer students? They didn’t look nervous at all.

“Have any of you ever been in another dimension before?” Piba asked, turning around in his seat. “I’ve been in one, thanks to my family’s connections. But I figured with how strong some of you are, maybe you’ve had the chance too?”

Everyone turned subtly toward Raze, waiting for his response.

“None of us have had that privilege,” Raze said calmly. “So this will be a new experience for us all.”

Piba gave a short nod and finally turned back around, thankfully deciding not to press the subject any further.

But just as the conversation died down, a student stood up and began making his way toward the back.

He stopped a few rows away.

“I need to speak to you,” Londo said, his eyes locked on Raze.

Chapter 1339: Underfang (Part 1)

With how loud and curious Chiba always was, she was practically dying to know what was going on. Why was Londo, the student who always kept to himself, who barely spoke a word to anyone, suddenly talking to the transfer student? Chiba’s mind ran wild. Was this a declaration? Was Londo about to challenge someone to a duel right there on the flying bus? Or maybe, just maybe, he was about to confess his love!

But of course, Chiba would never get her answer, because as soon as Londo sat down beside Safa, he cast a silence spell, blocking out the prying ears and eyes of everyone else on the bus.

“You realize you’re causing a lot of attention talking to me like this, right?” Raze asked, trying to keep his voice low. “You don’t think this conversation could have waited?”

Londo shot him a dry look. “You’re lecturing me about grabbing attention?” he replied. “You’re the one who went around spreading those rumors everywhere. Anyway, I wanted to talk to you while it was still fresh in my mind, before we got to the guild.”

He paused for a second, eyes flicking to the others on the bus, including a couple of the ranked students, and his lips curled in faint disgust. The others, already used to Londo’s attitude, exchanged glances, clearly wondering what had prompted him to act out of character now.

“I overheard your conversation earlier,” Londo continued, lowering his voice even further. “And I looked into things. The gifts that were received, including the one you were eyeing… it was all given by this new guild.”

“For years, the academy has always used the same guild,” he went on, “but this time, they chose to change things up, mostly because of donations.”

There was nothing unusual about that, at least not on the surface. Academies often formed strong relationships with certain guilds. It was a classic move: guilds got an inside track on recruiting talented students, sometimes even pushing their own agenda or selling themselves as the perfect destination for gifted mages. So, nothing felt out of the ordinary yet. Even the gifting of magical items was standard. But, considering what Raze and Londo already knew, this raised several red flags in their minds.

“I did some digging, as much as I could,” Londo said, his tone cautious. “And the guild we’re about to visit… they have a strong connection with the Cerebus Guild.”

The name made Raze sit up a little straighter. The Cerebus Guild was legendary, known as enforcers for an authority even higher than the police force. In a way, they were almost like a private guild at the beck and call of the Grand Magus, used whenever a show of true power or authority was needed. The guild was led by Gizin, the Grand Magus himself, one of the wealthiest people in the world thanks to the pharmaceuticals he sold to mages everywhere.

“When you say ’links,’ what do you mean?” Raze asked carefully. “That could mean anything, close, or barely connected at all.”

Londo nodded. “The guild has been given several tasks by the Cerebus Guild. It’s on their official list of allied-for-hire guilds. And when I looked deeper, I found out that the Magister actually warned us about guilds like these.”

He glanced around, making sure no one was listening. “The Cerebus Guild doesn’t recruit from academies or the general public. They only pull new members from their network of allied guilds. Every member has come up through these other guilds.”

It was a system built to maintain prestige. No one could just walk in and join the Cerebus Guild, only those who proved themselves elsewhere even got the chance. For a lot of people, joining one of those allied guilds became their main goal.

Especially since the Cerebus Guild was under the direct control of Gizin, one of the Grand Magus.

Harvey looked into the Cerebus Guild…that makes sense, Raze thought to himself. He told me they were interfering with his investigation. They were also the ones who told him to dig up whatever he could about the Dark Magus. Maybe they’re trying to find out if I’m the real thing or not. Guess it pays to be cautious…

“I wanted to tell you everything, just in case,” Londo finished, his voice earnest. “We’re heading into unknown territory here. I doubt they’d do anything to students from an academy, but there must be a reason they gifted the Cursed Item, and why they wanted the academy to visit them in the first place.”

With his message delivered and his warning clear, Londo stood up and headed back to his seat. No sooner had he left than Chiba came storming over, practically launching herself out of her seat.

“What did Londo say to you? Did he confess his feelings?” she blurted out, her eyes wide with anticipation.

Raze glanced down at Chiba’s hands, gripping the handle of his seat, her fingers were so close, it was almost uncomfortable.

“Chiba,” Yolden called from the row behind, noticing her intrusion. “Give him some personal space. And do you really think they’d use a silence spell if they wanted everyone to know what they were saying?”

“Yeah, but he can give us some small details, right?” Chiba persisted, flashing Raze a hopeful smile.

Just as Raze was about to reply, the teacher at the front of the bus suddenly stood up.

“Everyone, back to your seats, we’re about to land!” Panla shouted, her voice cutting through the chatter.

Immediately, Chiba scrambled back to her own seat, and the rest of the students followed suit. The bus glided through the sky, dipping lower, and outside the windows, a massive castle loomed in the distance, set in the middle of a sprawling open field.

From their vantage point, the students could see mages practicing spells on the castle grounds. All of them wore similar robes, a deep crimson, with a hint of gold shimmer. It was the unmistakable mark of the guild they were about to visit: a medium-sized guild known as the Underfang.

Unlike the Cerebus Guild, the Underfang weren’t enforcers or above government jurisdiction. But they did take on special assignments and often ventured into other dimensions as part of their work.

I wonder… Raze thought to himself as the bus descended. Are these one of those guilds that go into a dimension after the dungeon boss is cleared? If so, maybe I can finally get some information about why Alterian and the Grand Magus were searching these places to begin with. And what their real goal is with this academy…

Chapter 1340: Underfang (Part 2)

The twenty students, along with the four teachers, descended from the flying bus, their feet landing softly on the wide stone path outside the guild house. Waiting for them at the entrance were five members of the Underfang, all dressed in those distinctive, slightly crimson-colored robes. But one man stood out from the rest, taller and broader, with a commanding presence and a dark, rugged beard that shadowed the bottom half of his face.

Unlike the others, he wore a tailored blazer over his robes, looking both professional and formidable, as if he belonged in a boardroom just as much as on a battlefield. He appeared to be in his forties, and his eyes watched the students with a mixture of curiosity and authority.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Guild Master Bronto,” Luka said politely, stepping forward and bowing. Bronto returned the gesture with a respectful, if brief, bow of his own.

“It’s good to see your students here,” Bronto replied, his deep voice echoing slightly. “So, these are the best of the best from your academy, right?” He cast a keen gaze over the assembled group, sizing up the line-up of students.

Some of the students couldn’t help but look past Bronto, their eyes wide as they took in the grand guild house and the other mages training off to the side. Others fidgeted nervously, clearly out of their element, while a few remained laser-focused on the introductions and everything happening right in front of them.

“Yes,” Luka said with a hint of pride. “The aim is to finally give these students some real experience on a portal outing. Most of them dream of joining great guilds like yours one day.”

Bronto chuckled, leaning back slightly, and his chest seemed to swell with pride at the compliment. “Very well,” he said. “We’ll take them to the portal room immediately. Everyone, follow me, and don’t let yourselves get distracted or fall behind.”

The group followed Bronto and the five other Underfang members inside the sprawling guild house. The Underfangs positioned themselves around the students as they walked, one at the front, one at the rear, and the rest flanking the group on each side. Their careful arrangement didn’t escape Raze’s attention.

They’re treating this more like an escort than a simple student tour,

Raze thought, casting a sidelong glance at Liam.

“Right,” Liam muttered under his breath, thanks to the system’s awareness. “It’s almost like they’re trying to hide something.”

When they finally arrived, Raze half-expected Bronto to show them around the guild, perhaps even give a tour of the famous facilities, or at least show off a few demonstrations of their magic. The other students seemed to be expecting the same, remembering stories from last year when previous students had come home raving about the tour and the shows of power.

But none of that happened. Instead, Bronto led them straight to the portal room without so much as a glance at the rest of the guild.

The portal room itself was a large, mostly empty space, its white walls shining under magical lights. In total, there were six portals lined up inside, each framed by swirling runes and watched over by two guild members standing at attention. It was standard protocol, security, not just for the portals themselves, but for anyone who might try to use them.

Raze leaned in toward Safa, lowering his voice so only she could hear. “Can you do me a favor?” he whispered. “Can you use your God Eyes in this room?”

Raze’s mana control was impressive, even among other mages, he could sense things that would go unnoticed by most. But compared to Safa’s God Eyes, his perception was nothing. She’d be able to see if anyone was hiding something, or if there was more to the portals than met the eye.

As she activated her God Eyes, the world seemed to shift around her. She peered at the swirling energy of each portal, her vision able to pierce through layers of mana. Most portals had a low, steady aura of mana radiating around them, normal, stable, nothing out of the ordinary. But one portal was different. Its mana swirled and fractured, breaking apart and scattering like wild lightning.

“What exactly am I looking for?” Safa whispered, keeping her voice low so as not to draw attention.

“Just tell me what you see, quietly,” Raze replied, glancing around. He didn’t want to risk using a silence spell here, not when the guild leader could be watching. Bronto, after all, was probably a six-star mage if he led such a powerful guild. Although Raze had already faced the strongest six-star mage he knew, he doubted any would be stronger, but caution never hurt.

Suddenly, Redrick, the least formal of the teachers, piped up. “Oh, are you not going to show us around the guild?” he asked with genuine excitement. “I was hoping to see some demonstrations, maybe a few performances. You know, back in my day, I was quite the star in my own guild.”

Bronto listened to Redrick ramble, a polite smile playing at his lips. “Usually, we would,” he said, “but we’ve been quite busy and our schedule is tight. The world is changing quickly, as you know, it’s the same for us. Things are hectic everywhere.”

“We understand,” Luka said quickly, stepping in to prevent Redrick from saying anything that might harm their fragile relationship with the Underfang. When the Underfang had first approached Wiliton Academy, offering to partner with them, it had felt like a stroke of luck, a golden opportunity. Wiliton had been off the radar for years, able to rely only on lesser-known or minor guilds. With the big guilds focusing on the central academies, any change felt like a sign that fortune was finally turning for Wiliton.

Whatever the reason, the academy needed to make sure their relationship with Underfang stayed strong.

“Alright, since everyone is here, I suppose I should explain a few rules to your students, since it’s their first time entering a portal, right?” Bronto asked, his gaze sweeping over the group.

As the teachers checked on the students, making sure everyone was accounted for, Safa continued her low-voiced explanation to Raze, describing every detail she could see. The scattered, broken mana around one portal was especially strange, the residue looked recent, as if whatever happened had taken place not long ago.

“I see,” Raze murmured, piecing things together.

“What does it mean?” Safa asked quietly.

“It’s normal for portals to leak mana around them,” Raze explained. “That’s how we open them, mana and crystals working together. But the scattered, fractured mana you see around one portal and in the room, that’s not coming from any of these active portals. The portal itself looks normal to you, right?”

Safa nodded, her eyes focused.

“What it means is, they’ve been completing portals, defeating dungeon bosses, and creating new portals in their place. If you can still see that much mana residue, it must have happened recently.”

Chapter 1341: A qucik attack (Part 1)

Seeing a completed dimensional portal wasn’t exactly rare. In fact, it had almost become expected in certain places.

If a mid-tier portal was discovered with beasts the guild could handle, most of the time they would purposely avoid defeating the dimension boss. That way, they could continue to reap rewards from the beast crystals inside.

However, if the beasts inside were weak and the guild found the area too easy, they would rather take down the boss, collect its rare crystal, and attempt to open a new portal somewhere else.

It was a common pattern followed by many guilds.

That said, opening portals wasn’t something done on a whim. Each time one appeared, someone would record the location and the specific magic incantation used to open it.

That information could then be sold, licensed, essentially, to other guilds, allowing them to recreate the portal and explore the same dimension. It was a highly profitable practice.

But the real risk came when opening a new dimension. You had no idea what kind of beasts were waiting inside.

Testing the level of a dimension was tricky. If the portal led to a high-tier world, it could easily result in the loss of multiple guild members. So when it came to unknown dimensions, most guilds were far less eager to take chances.

’Once a dimension boss is defeated, there’s a limited time where the portal remains stable and allows entry… but I heard there are mages who’ve entered completed Pagna dimensions before,’ Raze thought.

’It makes me wonder, did the Grand Magus discover a way to enter these dimensions without having to defeat a boss first? And if so, what exactly were they searching for? Artifacts? Something else? If they’re tied to Cerebus, they might have the answer to how they’re pulling this off.’

Still, Raze forced himself to stay focused. There was something troubling him about the situation.

According to Safa’s description, the area had a specific setup. Portals were placed at the back right of the site, one was already completed, and a new one had opened in its place.

The real question was: Had the guild even taken the time to explore this new dimension before deciding to send the students inside? Or were they about to be thrown into an unscouted world?

’Maybe… that’s why the guild contacted the academy in the first place,’ Raze considered. ’But surely, they would have at least tested the waters first, right?’

In the back of his mind, Raze couldn’t forget one thing, this was the same group responsible for handing out cursed items.

“Alright!” Bronto’s booming voice cut through the buzz of idle chatter. The students instantly went quiet. Even the most talkative among them gave their full attention now that the guild leader was speaking.

“Your teachers will be guiding you inside. Whatever happens beyond that point is not the guild’s responsibility,” Bronto announced, his expression firm. “You’ll have a total of eight hours to explore the dimension.

“If you don’t return within that time, our guild members will enter and attempt a rescue.

“The dimension has a high beast rate count. I doubt you’ll trigger it, but in the unlikely event that the boss appears, under no circumstances are you to fight it.

“You are to follow your teachers and exit through the portal immediately.”

Toward the back, one student leaned in to whisper to the classmate beside him.

“What’s a high beast rate count?” he asked, too embarrassed to speak up in front of everyone.

“You seriously didn’t pay attention in class?” the other replied with a sigh. “Every dimension has a different number of beasts that can be killed before the boss appears.

“Guilds try to figure out that number, because if they want to farm safely, they don’t want the boss showing up unexpectedly.”

“Ohh, that makes sense!” the student nodded. “So a high beast count means they can take out a bunch of monsters without triggering the boss? Man… I’ve never even seen a dimension boss. That’s gotta be terrifying.”

Bronto, still in the middle of explaining, narrowed his eyes. He could hear the whispers.

Without a word, he raised his hand, and a bolt of lightning shot across the field.

It struck one of the whispering students square in the chest.

The force launched him backward. His body convulsed as electricity danced across his limbs, writhing on the floor in front of stunned classmates.

Gasps echoed. No one dared move.

Diana was the first to react, rushing to the student’s side. She knelt down, placing her hands over his chest as she channeled healing magic into his body, trying to reverse the damage.

“What the hell was that?!” Redrick shouted, his hands beginning to heat with raw energy. “Why did you attack our student?”

Bronto didn’t flinch.

“Do you not teach respect and discipline at your academy?” he said coolly. “This entire expedition is a favor

to your school. What I’m saying is important, and if they won’t listen, what makes you think they’ll obey orders in a life-or-death situation?”

His gaze darkened.

“If these students die inside, that blood is on our hands. That’s why I’m giving them a taste of what to expect.

“If they can’t handle something like that, then how are they supposed to defend themselves when the real thing hits?”

Redrick clenched his fists, still fuming.

“You could’ve just warned them! A reminder of the situation would’ve been enough. You didn’t need to attack someone!”

But before things could escalate, Luka stepped forward and placed a firm hand on Redrick’s shoulder. A silent cue to calm down.

Yet amidst the tension, something else was happening.

“Safa, are you okay?” Liam asked, concern in his voice.

“Ah, yeah. Since it was a lightning spell, I just got grazed a little,” Safa said, trying to shrug it off.

“Let me see.”

Raze stepped in and gently took her hand. A red burn mark streaked across her skin. His eyes narrowed as he stared at the wound… then looked straight at Bronto.

His expression darkened.

Chapter 1342: Sparks That Cross The Line

Diana worked as quickly as she could, her hands glowing with healing energy as she hovered over the fallen student. His eyes had rolled back from the sheer intensity of the lightning strike.

The attack from the guild leader hadn’t been some minor jolt, it was a serious spell, packed with force. For a Six-Star Mage to unleash that kind of magic on a student… it was clear the line had been crossed.

Worse, the lingering nature of the lightning spell left an active charge hovering in the boy’s body. Diana couldn’t fully heal him until the residual mana faded, meaning he was still being hurt, every second.

The entire scene left a heavy awkwardness between the two groups. The students stood silently, unsure how to act, their eyes darting between their injured classmate and the guild mages. They had to rely on their teachers now.

Redrick’s hands had begun to heat with fury. He took a single, heavy step forward, eyes burning with rage, heading straight for Bronto.

But Luka extended an arm in front of him, stopping him in his tracks.

“What are you doing, Luka? He attacked one of our students!” Redrick growled through gritted teeth. “We can’t just let him get away with that!”

“You’re not wrong,” Luka replied calmly, “but what he said… there was truth in it. The student was speaking out of turn. And what Bronto said about the dimension, it’s all accurate.”

“That might be true,” Redrick snapped, “but these are students. They’re here to learn. They’ll make mistakes. That doesn’t give anyone the right to attack them like that.”

His voice dropped to a bitter snarl. “We’re their teachers, Luka. It’s our job to protect them, not just from beasts, but from mages who abuse their power and authority.”

Luka’s arm stayed out, but his strength in holding Redrick back was starting to waver, not from lack of power, but from hesitation. Because deep down, he knew Redrick was right.

The principal had sent him along exactly for moments like this, just in case things got tense between the academy and the Underfang Guild.

“Redrick,” a softer voice chimed in. Panla stepped up beside them. “This might be something we have to concede… for now.”

She looked between both teachers and then to the students.

“You have to understand the position we’re in. We’re inside their guild hall, under their jurisdiction. If we fight back, we won’t win. And it’s the students who’ll end up suffering for it.”

She sighed, her tone turning bitter. “You’re right. We are here for them. So let’s not put them in more danger by letting this escalate further.”

Panla was disappointed in herself. She should’ve been watching closer, should’ve acted faster. If she had, she might have been able to intercept Bronto’s lightning strike with her own spell. But it had happened too fast, completely out of nowhere.

Among the students, another situation was unfolding.

Raze had grabbed Safa’s arm, inspecting a faint red burn across her skin.

“You were hit?” Yolden asked, noticing the mark.

“It must’ve happened during the strike,” Chiba said. “Lightning magic tends to spread. Even with full control, area discharge is hard to contain. Anyone nearby can get caught in it.”

Piba stood nearby, watching Raze quietly. His head was down, hiding his face, but… there was something.

“He’s not happy,” Piba said quietly.

“What did you say?” Yolden asked.

“Raze… he’s upset.”

They didn’t quite understand it, but Safa did.

It had been a long time since she’d felt this particular intensity from Raze, this emotion. But now, it radiated from him. It was undeniable.

“Raze… it’s okay,” Safa said softly. She began healing her own wound with magic, the burn already fading. Then, gently, she took his hand from her arm and held it in both of hers.

“I’m okay. Trust me.”

But the others could hear it, Safa’s voice was shaky, her calm exterior cracking ever so slightly.

Raze slowly raised his head, his eyes locking on Bronto.

And Bronto noticed.

The guild leader met his gaze… and smirked.

“What’s the matter?” Bronto said, smugly. “Did I hit your girlfriend by accident? Tch… I’m just teaching all of you what could happen in there. Don’t look at me like that. That look, you’ve got no respect, kid.”

Raze didn’t answer. He didn’t blink. He just stared.

Before anything else could happen, Luka quickly stepped between them.

“Diana,” he called out, “how’s the student?”

“He’s stable now. He can stand,” Diana replied, though she glanced at Safa. “I’d like her to do a quick pass on him before we go in, just to make sure he’s ready for the assessment.”

“Good. In that case, let’s move,” Luka said firmly. “No time to waste.”

He turned to Redrick. “Go through the portal first. If we get the angriest one out of the way, we avoid further conflict.”

Redrick grumbled but complied, disappearing into the shimmering dimensional gate.

Diana followed with the injured student, then the rest of the class began entering one by one.

At the rear of the group were the Underfang members, with Panla and Luka staying back to make sure everyone made it through safely.

Raze walked past them in silence. But as he moved, his eyes drifted to Bronto again, scowling without even realizing it.

Bronto noticed.

“What was that look?” he sneered. “I guess you brats didn’t learn your damn lesson after all.”

He raised his hand, sparks dancing around his fingertips again. Panla spotted the charge immediately and prepared to cast a barrier, but the angle was bad. She wasn’t close enough.

“I’ll get your damn girlfriend if you care about her so much!” Bronto roared.

The spell launched.

Panla’s heart dropped, it was going to hit Safa.

But then…

A bare hand reached out.

The lightning bolt never made it. The moment it touched the hand, it was crushed, dispersed in a flash of raw mana that cracked outward like a shattered mirror.

Panla blinked in shock.

It was Raze.

His arm was outstretched. His hand still smoking with faint magical residue. And his eyes… locked on Bronto, burning with calm fury.

“…What did you just try to do?” Raze asked, his voice low and razor-sharp.
