Dark Magus Returns

Chapter 1032: The Good Of The Grand Magus

There were multiple public cases, as well as those who knew Enaxx personally, who would use one word to describe him: petty. This pettiness drove him to absurd actions over the smallest of cases.

Yet, it was perhaps because of this pettiness that he had been able to rise so high in the first place. Maybe this was what Idore saw in him when choosing among the other candidates to become a nine-star mage and a part of the Grand Magus.

Still, becoming part of the Grand Magus and being a public figure all the time had forced him to learn to somewhat control his usual urges. After all, he was already at the top. He didn’t have much left to prove anymore.

However, the position had also caused him to demand respect from everyone, and although many gave it, there were times when he felt disrespected. What Jake Dove had done, from the way he spoke to the way he explained his theories, was, in Enaxx’s eyes, a clear sign of disrespect.

Thankfully, Enaxx had thought he would let things go because it was a one-time incident. In his mind, he knew that he could deal with Jake whenever he wanted. That was the decision he had reached.

While he was busy remaining backstage after the show, signing autographs and answering a number of questions, his magical watch device received several pings. Looking at it and reading the messages, he smiled.

*”I see. It seems that all of Alterian’s stars have aligned. After I decided not to do anything at all, now they have chosen me to act.”* With a deep grin on his face, Enaxx made sure to remain surrounded by many people as he continued signing and making small talk with the guests.

In a particular alleyway, an earth wall had risen, blocking the path and preventing anyone from entering or leaving. Now, two people stood facing each other, having been together around twenty or so minutes ago.

“Enaxx, what are you doing here?” Jake asked, his worry evident. The words Enaxx had already spoken were laced with annoyance, and there was no reason for him to meet up with Jake in such a secluded way unless he had bad intentions.

Before Jake could take another step, his foot was suddenly covered in earth, which tightened around him. Jake moved his hands to cast a spell, but material from the buildings’ walls beside him broke out, wrapping around both of his arms. The material hardened in place, trapping him completely where he stood.

The earth’s hardening was intense, and the spells were cast so quickly that Jake had no chance to react. A pillar from the ground transformed into a sharp spike aimed directly at his throat.

“You don’t want to do this,” Jake pleaded. “You’re the Grand Magus! You have a lot to lose. People will know something happened-they’ll know it was you!”

“Do you think this is the first time I’ve done something like this?” Enaxx said with a smirk. “Trust me, I’ll get away with it, just like I’ve done many times before. You know, I was in a good mood today. I decided to let you go-to let you off for your foolish display.

“I mean, I was once like you-young and wanting to prove myself to the world. So I didn’t blame you for what you did. But it seems that you acted on purpose, right? Digging into things, meeting Ibrain, trying to set up a meeting with Gizin, and now meeting me-it would seem something is going on.

“Well, I’ve been asked to deal with the problem, and I’m handling it in my own way.”

Walking forward, Enaxx pulled out a thin, glowing blue stick.

At first, Jake thought his life was over. He believed this was the end for him. But instead, Enaxx did something unexpected. He forced the stick into Jake’s mouth.

“I’d start sucking on that if I were you,” Enaxx said coldly. “Otherwise, you won’t have a throat left by the end of this.”

Looking at the stick and its glowing blue essence, Jake instantly recognized it. It was an item used by certain mages-a crystal vape stick, an illegal substance.

*”A banned substance that gives mages a high. It temporarily boosts their magic core, swirling power around their heart, allowing for stronger magic use. But it’s temporary and highly addictive.

“Beyond the severe withdrawal symptoms and the need to obtain more, there’s the risk of the mana core collapsing, destroying the heart completely. Even before that, taking too much can leave the body weak, dizzy, or unconscious. Some people just fall asleep. Others become violently aggressive, attacking everything they see. And some… just crumble into emotional wreckage. That stick contains three times the regular dose.”*

All the blue essence had been consumed, and Jake felt pain with every beat of his heart. The earth that had surrounded his feet and arms disappeared, and he collapsed to the ground. His chest burned, his body drenched in sweat, and the ground beneath him seemed to spin. “Why… why do this to me?” Jake managed to ask, struggling to endure the effects. “I’ve been working more than usual,” Enaxx said casually. “I think it’s best if you head home.”

With those words, the earth wall behind Jake vanished, and Enaxx disappeared as if he had never been there.

It didn’t appear to be any type of magic-Enaxx’s body simply seemed to vanish. But Jake couldn’t dwell on it. He had a new worry on his mind.

*”Home? What is he talking about?”* Jake thought frantically.

Stumbling, Jake rushed toward his home, trying repeatedly to call his wife and son. His unsteady steps faltered as he hurried forward, desperation giving him strength.

When he finally reached his apartment building, everything appeared normal from the outside. But as he opened the door and stepped into the living room, his entire world shattered.

On the floor, motionless, were his wife and son.

“No… no…”

Jake collapsed, his hands clutching his head as tears streamed down his face.

“NOOOOO!” Jake screamed with every ounce of strength he had until the pain in his chest overwhelmed him. He too collapsed, unconscious, beside the family he had lost.

Dark Magus Returns

Chapter 1033: A Deep Punishment (Part 1)

The general public was in uproar over recent events that had occurred in Alteiran. Every news channel, every broadcaster, every guild, and everyone who was anyone was talking about one large event that had occurred, wherever possible.

They were talking about the recent arrest of Jake Dove. The reporters covered in detail what had occurred, that Jake Dove had been arrested for the murder of his wife and child. The full details hadn’t come out, as the case had yet to go to trial and it was only a recent event.

However, it was presumed that illegal substances had been used, and in a rage from the substances, Jake had murdered both members of his family.

It had shocked people because Jake on his broadcast had been seen as a likable person. He was a personality that was quickly gaining popularity. Not only that, but people were truly believing that he was making a change in his books and was fighting for the lower star mages with his breakthrough theories.

Yet all of this had occurred. No longer could his supporters be in support of someone who killed their own family, and took illegal substances. Many were believing that fame truly did change people.

Maybe he started on the straight path, but this was the result, and the result of this was the burning of Jake’s beloved works. People were out on the streets setting them alight with their magics.

Stores were no longer taking in Jake Dove’s written works, and it was a complete flip. With all this going on though, Jake Dove himself didn’t know.

As he was sat in a jail cell, not moving from his position. His hands were on his head, his lips were dry, and even Jake didn’t know what he was thinking right now. The effects of the magical substance he had inhaled had long gone.

Yet right now, he felt even worse as his mind was clear.

‘The Grand Magus…they did this…they did this, how could they, how could they get my family involved. What for, how did this even happen, how could it have happened! Why would anyone in the world do such a thing…I just want to see them again.

‘I just want to hear their voice, I want to speak to them again, I don’t want them to go, I want to tell them how much I cared about them. I want to..I want to…I don’t want them to die…’ Jake started to sob uncontrollably once again, as his mind felt like it was splitting into two.

As he continued to sob footsteps were heard from the outside, but Jake didn’t lift his head, not until he heard the voice that spoke.

“What a mess, what a big mess.”

Lifting his head, Jake’s eyes were filled with rage, his heart was racing and he tried to instantly gather as much mana as possible but his glowing cuffs lit up absorbing the mana from his body, stopping him from doing anything.

He got up on his feet and rushed with his body as he crashed into the barrier in front of him. “Enaxx, how dare you show up in front of me, how dare you!” Jake shouted.

“Why…why did you have to do that to my family, why did you have to do that to them. Couldn’t you have just killed me instead, why did you have to do that to them.”

Enaxx lifted his finger and started to wiggle it in front of his face.

“Now, now didn’t you get a warning before, yet you had to continue to push us. We give chances. Why are some of you mages, so damn stubborn.”

Jake’s eyes widened, as the link had finally hit him. The death of Sabrina, the way Raze was now, the loss of his wife, the loss of his job, and the way all of the Grand Magus acted. This wasn’t the first time they had done such a thing, and Raze was a result of the same actions that Jake had been through.

“You…you…Grand Magus how could you…just what monsters even are you to do such things!” Jake shouted. “Why, when you have everything the world already has, how could you push everyone so far, why even bother with all of this.”

“Because we have to get rid of those that get too curious about us.” Enaxx said. “Well it’s not my orders anyway. I’m just riding the wave, and besides why would I care for the lives of bugs. If I’m not careful I could wipe out half a town with a swing of my hand. With this type of

power.

“Isn’t it right, that every day you should be begging me not to use it. I have to restrain myself constantly, so it’s only right that I get to use it once in a while.”

Enaxx was a mad man, and it was only known that Jake had seen that, and it was too late. Enaxx walked through the barrier with ease. Jake didn’t even know where the guards were but a man of his position and caliber could get rid of them in an instant.

With a flick of his finger the floor shifted dragging Jake over towards him once again. Until he grabbed onto his throat.

“You know, I was ordered to just get rid of you, but it wasn’t enough, and I was meant to just kill you, but I wanted to send a message just in case anyone else gets any ideas. I told you as well, I would get away with it, didn’t I?” Enaxx said as he pulled out another illegal magical vape device.

He pressed on Jake’s jaw forcing it open and shoved the stick right in there. Enaxx had to, because this time a threat of killing him wouldn’t work. With another hand, he created a water bubble right above Jake’s head.

Stopping all his other airways, forcing him to suck the substance in. Finally taking it in, Enaxx let go.

“That’s five times the dose of last time. With that your mana heart will collapse I’m sure you’re smart enough to know what happens after that.” Enaxx said, and just like before he had completely disappeared from Jake’s sight, vanishing into practically thin air.

Dark Magus Returns

Chapter 1034: (Fixed) A Deep Punishment (Part 2)

After Enaxx had vanished, Jake had collapsed onto the floor holding onto his chest. The veins on his neck were showing and even the simplest of tasks such as breathing felt quite difficult for him.

He grabbed onto the clothing on his chest tight, unsure whether the immense amount of pain he felt from his heart was because of the loss of his family, or the onset pain from taking the illegal substance.

‘I just want them back…’ Jake said to himself as the substance was taking its effect.

In Alterian, Jake had been taken into one of the local police stations. It wasn’t particularly large in size, there were around twenty-five staff members in the office, with a total of four floors in the building.

It was located in one of the main cities but not directly in downtown. It was placed on the corner of a street from a few residential apartment buildings. Cars mostly just drove by the place unless they had a problem and came in.

This was the temporary holding cell that had been selected for Jake Dove while the investigation was still progressing. It had been a little over 24 hours since he had been brought in. Once everything was processed, he would be moved to a prison, and from there he would await his trial and the decision.

The police station was chosen so reporters and the general public had no idea where Jake was, as they didn’t want to cause a scene or fuss. Especially in a world of powerful magic users, no one really knew who was going to do what.

“Man, what a crazy, crazy case.” An officer said with his hands behind his head. He was sitting at his desk in a row next to five other of his fellow officers. They had been talking about the situation.

“I wanted to text everyone saying look who I got and snap a picture.”

“Don’t do that.” Another chimed in. “You know word gets out really easy about these things. Our easy job would become incredibly difficult if you did that.”

Just then, the door was heard opening, and a man walked in wearing an enchanted robe. The officers peeked at the man as the robe was strange covering one’s face; they had never seen one like it before.

It was almost as if a shroud of darkness showed only the top half just revealing the mouth, no matter how much light shined on the person.

“Can we help you?” The officer asked.

“I’m here to see Jake Dove.” The hooded man said.

That’s one one of the officers noticed, specks of blood on the man’s hand. Quickly, the officer was casting a spell, and then pulling his arm from under the desk he threw out a fireball.

It shot towards the hooded man, who deflected the fireball before it hit him, the wind blew the fire back and then changed its path as it went right back towards the desk and exploded hitting the front.

The officers quickly moved and jumped over their desks.

“We’re under attack, we’re under attack, we have to call in support quickly; he has to be a high-level mage!”

The man went to touch his wrist watch communicator but before he could, the hooded man placed his hand out towards the officers.

“Dark Pulse.”

A dark beam of energy shot straight out, tearing through the man’s chest, killing him on the spot, and attacking the other officers. The man continued his fight, as Raze was utilizing the power of Dark Magic he had been learning for a while now.

Once again, Jake heard the sound of footsteps but his vision was blurry and his chest still hurting. Even if he wanted to lift his head, he couldn’t. He wasn’t even aware of the explosions that were going off from above.

“This barrier…I should be able to get rid of it.” An officer said.

Lifting his head ever so slightly, Jake was sure of it-this voice, it had to be, it had to be Raze Cromwell.

Soon after, Jake had been lifted off the floor, and he could see the old man’s white hair come into view.

“Raze, you’re here…what are you doing?”

“I’m breaking you out.” Raze answered. “I saw the broadcast. I have an idea of what happened, I knew you aren’t the type of person to do such a thing to your family. Just like when you put your trust in me.”

Raze was breaking Jake out of the prison and was taking him out of the place. As they went up the stairs and out onto the main reception, Jake was able to see the destruction Raze had caused, including the officers that were bleeding out on the ground.

“You killed them…” Jake said.

“I’m not a good person, Jake. I never was. Maybe you saw the good side in me, but I always had the will to do this. I’m just sorry you got caught up in all of this.” Raze said. “Come on, I know a place we can hide.”

There was a place where Raze knew no one would try to look for them, and it was practically a maze for those that didn’t know their way down there-the underground world, where Raze was born.

Using his various magic, it was easy for Raze to avoid attention and take the two of them there, and while on the way, Raze had learned of everything that had happened to Jake. He had learned of what Enaxx did, his family dying, and what had occurred in the jail cell.

Even everything he had gone through. When they had eventually reached an abandoned house in the underground world, Raze had placed Jake up against the wall and looked at his chest. “It’s bad, right… I know I can tell, I’m not going to make it… So I need to tell you something. There’s a device, I think it got taken into evidence for the case. I recorded everything. My conversations with Ibrain, my conversations with Gizin’s employees… and even more when Enaxx threatened me.

“Use it to tell the world the truth, use it to get rid of the scum of this world… my friend.” Those were the last of Jake’s words as his heart had stopped and his chest had completely caved in.

Standing up, Raze looked at his hand and dark magic swirled revealing the circular recording device that Jake had talked about. Raze had already taken all of the evidence. While looking at Jake, he decided to play everything there.

Everything he had gathered, everything that had happened, and he realized that it was because of Jake’s involvement with him, that he and his family had to suffer, and he also knew very well which person was responsible.

It was there and then that he had added another member of the Grand Magus to his list, and that was all five of them-to get rid of them all.

His hand clenching around the device, Raze smashed it as Dark magic entered into the cracks and ripped it apart.

“I’m sorry, Jake. We don’t even know if this is enough to do anything, and besides, the Dark Magus can never get off that lightning. I won’t ever let them get off that lightning.”

Dark Magus Returns

Chapter 1035: The Last Of Raze’s Memories

The group that were there to retrieve the Golden Globe had never expected to witness the

darkest moments in each other’s minds. They never thought they would learn so much about the strangers around them.

Yet, for Raze, the person known as Dark Magus, they had learned far more about him than they had ever expected. His feelings of certain events had overridden the strange spell, and they had shown everything.

Not just the key moments, but they had seen the whole thing to do with Raze’s dear friend Jake. It was hard to know why this was, why had they seen the full details of Jake compared to the others.

Maybe it was Raze’s own mind. A lot of the darkness he had blocked it out of his head, to not think about it so much, but to remember the pain and the hatred he carried instead. However, lately with everything that had been going on with Pagna.

With those that he had met, those that were willing to fight by his side and give up their lives for him, it had been at the forefront of his mind. Rather than blocking it like before, Raze wanted to see it himself.

It was impossible for Raze to have certain memories of what had occurred with Jake. Yet his mind had filled in what he had believed had occurred, from Jake’s stories as well as the special device that had been left behind.

When thinking about the events, Raze was thinking about them in a more concurrent line of thought. Allowing everyone to get an idea of what led to what, to the point of Jake’s death.

Having seen all of this, how would it affect the others’ thoughts about him? Because of his past and everything he had been through, because of his hatred of the Grand Magus and perhaps now even their hatred of the Dark Magus, would they believe that Raze was deserving of the item?

Maybe they would wish for him to even have it deep down, so he could complete his revenge, because it was quite clear that the world didn’t need these people, at least for sane people, with this group, who knew what they thought.

However, when the group pulled out of the end of memories with Jake, they all believed that it would be the end instead the visions didn’t stop, and it moved onto the next scene. It made them wonder, just what more were they going to see, there was still more to come.

‘How can a person have such a dark life.’ Beatrix thought. She strengthened herself to be ready for whatever was to come next, because what she had already witnessed was hard enough. What they had come to witness though, was what no one expected, because now they were in the life of Raze as the Dark Magus.

They saw him, attacking people for information. To get ahead of what the Grand Magus were doing.

They saw his raid on the academy and his fight for revenge, fighting even against other teachers, and even killing a few in the process. On top of that, how he had fought against particular guilds, eliminating every single person inside, not even giving them a chance to explain themselves.

With these scenes, there was no context or explanation, and to be honest it wasn’t very much needed. They knew Raze was on the path of revenge, it was just his method of doing it, was beyond what they had expected.

In truth, although Raze was head and heart strong, he always kept his casualties to a minimum. He always only attacked those that were related to the matter. It was these principles he carried with him that allowed him to at least not be on the same level as the Grand Magus.

And even if he was brought to a circumstance where he had to take the lives of those that weren’t involved, then he would at least take the worst of the worst that he could find at the time.

Finally, the images of Raze’s life as the cruel Dark Magus were coming to an end, as an old man, weak and frail, only a fraction of his former self was standing on a rooftop building. In front of him a circle of sacrifices tied up, with a magic spell on the floor.

The last scene played out, with the Grand Magus appearing and all of the sacrifices losing their lives, and oddly they even witnessed the very end, where Raze’s own life had come to an end.

Seeing this, all of them had many questions. Seeing the end of Raze’s life and now him in the young person’s life, was it due to magic that he had learned that he was able to do such a thing. A stroke of luck, or what.

Now, some were starting to understand why he had so much power. Although, some things still didn’t make sense, like his amazing advancement of Qi and more. Finally though they were all brought out of Raze’s mind.

The last few scenes it was a little difficult for them to stomach, but it wasn’t as if the world of Pagna, clans, and warriors was any better, but it was also clear it had affected their thoughts.

They were back in the room. The glowing lights on their heads had disappeared but the large face made of the mystical energy was still in front of them. It no longer spun to go to the next person, but instead it stayed there, almost waiting for something.

It was strange they had expected the next events to start straight away, or for the Golden Globe that was on show to levitate toward them but that didn’t happen at all.

“Due to what I have just witnessed, there is one decision that I have decided upon myself.” The mystic face then turned and faced Raze once more. “This person’s anger, the power within them, the thoughts on their mind is too much. If they were to get their hands on the Golden Globe, if a person like this was to get their hands on the item, then it may be the end of several words.

“You have been eliminated from the selection of the Golden Globe.”

Dark Magus Returns

Chapter 1036: You Are The Chosen One

Although Raze didn’t want to see his own memories or remember in vivid detail what happened to Jake, he thought it was a good time for him to reaffirm why he was doing things. One thing he wasn’t happy about, though, was the fact that everyone around was able to see what he had gone through.

And there was the bigger worry on his mind: what would this mean for the choice of who got the item. To be honest, Raze didn’t have much hope of being selected knowing what was in his head. The only chance he had was that it would show the other Raze’s memories, but that didn’t occur.

However, what he didn’t expect was that this spirit in front of him had made a specific decision on the spot, to exclude him from the selection.

“What is this damn spirit talking about!” Raze said through his teeth. “If I was to have the Golden Globe, I would destroy the world? There are only five that I wish to get rid of, and no one else. I don’t care, I have no desire to do anything like that!”

Lince had his hand on his chin thinking about the situation. It was impressive that the spirit, even though not heard in person and a part of a magic spell, was also able to see what memories were occurring.

The spirit also never mentioned such a thing was possible, but when he thought about the Dark Faction Founder’s goals-to stop the item getting into the hands of others, so much so that he had stolen the item from the Bonum Society-it made sense.

It couldn’t tell if Raze’s goals were just. It was just basing it on his anger. To put it in a simpler way: if Raze needed to destroy several planets, several worlds in order to get his revenge, then the spirit had practically determined that Raze would be willing to go that far.

If that was the case, in a way, the spirit was right from its perspective. It could never let Raze have the Golden Globe in his hands.

“But then whose hands are deserving of it? Alter? It can’t be them,” Lince thought. “If they get it, then Belil’s fear will come true. It would be the opposite of what the founder would want as well. The Light Faction is working hand in hand with Alter as well!” Lince thought.

The chances of him getting the item were quite low as well.

“Haha, not even my past was considered too unworthy, but it looks like they didn’t like yours too much,” Mosak stated. “Maybe there is a chance that I will have the item as well.”

If Mosak got the item, no one even knew what he was planning to do with such a thing. There was a worry on Lince’s mind though, was he still in contact with the other Divine warriors in the other realm?

What if he got in contact with him, and opened a portal that allowed Divine warriors to come down. Was it possible that more like Mosak would come? Those that were capable of still using their powers in Pagna.

What was frustrating was Lince couldn’t do a single thing about it regardless of what was to take place.

“The spell that has trapped you in will trap every single individual in place for a week. I’m sure powerful warriors, mages, and anything else that has come from the Golden Globe would be able to survive that long,” the mystic spirit claimed. “In turn, the person who is selected will be able to leave. Now we will start the process.”

From the mystic spirit, the ground beneath the dark space lit up and went in a straight line to Impress. When it reached her, a circular light lit up beneath her feet, and a rune had appeared on her head.

A slight pain was felt in her head just for a moment before it disappeared. Right after that, the glowing line from the mystic had disappeared and it moved onto the next person, going from one to the other.

Taking the results from Ricar, taking it from Red, taking it from Beatrix, taking it from Lince, taking it from Zon, taking it from Mosak, and finally the white line even took it from Raze.

‘So this spirit decided to reject me from the selection but still has asked for my vote. This whole spell is incredibly weird,’ Raze thought as he clenched his fists and continued to stare down.

He could see in the circle runes were almost bouncing in the circle itself. It was allowing him to see more of the construction of the entire spell at hand.

‘I thought the two of us were similar to each other. Living a life in Alterian, and moving to Pagna. Obtaining a life in Pagna, and still having a past in Alterian,’ Raze thought. ‘I followed his footsteps for a long time, learning the Dark Edge Sword Arts, learning about how he had built the Dark Faction and what he had done in order to protect the world of Pagna.’

‘Belil thought that the two of us were extremely similar. Belil had chosen me to aid you and your goals as well as his, but you have not chosen me and the answer is simple. It is because you and I are not the same, and now I know that for sure.’ Raze thought.

The mystic space started to split up, no longer looking like a head and just lingered in the air. It allowed everyone to view the Golden Globe more clearly, as well as allowing everyone to look at each other as they waited for the result.

“So do we just stand here and wait or what?” Red asked.

A ding chime was heard, a slightly humming sound, and they could see, right under one of them, a light circle had lit up. A person had been chosen; they had all chosen this person.

Dark Magus Returns

Chapter 1037: Obtaining The Golden Globe

Finally, the decision had been made. Everyone’s minds had been read, and now the outcome was taking place. Underneath one of the people in the room’s circle area had lit up. The shining light underneath their feet was a clear indicator for all of those that didn’t get chosen.

They turned their heads to a single individual, and with all eyes on them, their face started to flush red.

“Me… it was me, I was the one chosen?” Beatrix said, raising her hands and pressing them to her face. She was swinging her head side to side, embarrassed by what everyone had seen. She kept thinking about that moment she was in the shop, and everything that had been seen.

“Well, I can’t exactly say I’m surprised,” Lince said to himself. “Anyone who’s anyone could have seen that she was the only one that truly didn’t have anything dark to be shown. I just thought that maybe the test would have been something more than that. Is this truly the only precaution the founder took?”

Ricar seemed pleased that Beatrix was chosen and even relieved as he relaxed himself slightly. With the Golden Globe in their hands, the Aurora Clan would have no reason to try and outcast the Dawnblade Clan from their rightful duties in the Light Faction.

They had succeeded in one of the most difficult missions and had cemented all of their positions as well. He was also thankful that at least with the strange barrier set up, no one could intervene in Beatrix receiving the item. There was still one worry in his mind, though.

‘What are the rest of us to do once the barrier disappears in a week’s time? All of us will still be together in the same room. With nothing to fight over anymore, will they avoid a fight or use it as a chance to get rid of us?’ Ricar thought.

It was hard to tell with everyone’s goals being somewhat lofty as their reason for the Golden Globe. However, if there was one thing Ricar was sure about, it was that they would have the time to figure that one out. Maybe he could even convince the others not to fight against them or to team up with one of the others that were there.

“Just go ahead,” Ricar said. “Take the artifact and head back to the Light Faction ahead of us. I’m sure one of the Light Faction leaders has realized how dangerous this island is and is waiting by one of the ships. Just leave, and we will figure out a way to get off this island.”

Beatrix had yet to move after being selected. She didn’t even know if the barrier was really down since she hadn’t taken a single step forward. She was hesitant, but it wasn’t for the reason that Ricar thought.

In the end, she took one step forward, and there was no resistance at all. Unlike before, she was able to move freely. She took the leap and walked with both feet, heading straight towards the Golden Globe.

Seeing this, Red had tried to move forward wondering if all of the barriers were down, but he was still trapped and couldn’t do anything.

“It’s fine anyway, I’ve done my part,” Red said. “My mission was just to make sure we’d get the item, and we have it. TOO BAD ZON!” Red shouted across the room. “It looks like you’ve failed again.”

Beatrix glanced back, and instead of walking straight ahead, she started to walk in a circle. In the large dark space they were in, it appeared as if she could walk wherever she wanted. Her actions seemed odd; rather than heading straight for the Golden Globe in front of her, was she taunting them?

“Just pick up the Golden Globe and get out of here!” Impress yelled, already annoyed from before.

With the yelling from Impress, Beatrix decided to move forward, and she came to a complete stop right in front of the item on the podium. It was only now so close she realized that the Golden Globe, slightly smaller than a bowling ball, was levitating slightly.

Even this close, though, she could feel the self-reliant power emerging from the item. Artifacts were strange things, as they felt alive when in front of one. Having their own self- reliant power source that could be used, and in this case, the item had the power to affect many worlds.

‘If I take this, then it means the Golden Globe belongs to the Light Faction. I know Ricar wants me to hand it over, and it will end up in the hands of Alter. The Aurora Clan is working with them, on the basis that they will give support and help us in the struggle against the Dark Faction and the Demonic Faction… but that was before I knew everything.’

‘The person who’s at the helm of the Dark Faction and Demonic Faction is right here in front of me. It’s the Dark Magus, but… are his goals really to take over Pagna? After everything I’ve seen today, it certainly doesn’t feel that way.’

‘Yet what we can’t confirm are the goals of Alter completely, who aren’t even here themselves. Who sent us on this mission without even explaining what it’s for.’

No matter how hard Beatrix tried, she couldn’t get the thought of what Zon had said at the time, and Lince later. How giving the item to Alter would be the end of Pagna. Yet then, who could she give the item to?

Who in the room could she hand the item to, that she would feel like it wouldn’t be used against them. Against the Light Faction or the heart of the people of Pagna.

If there was one thing she was sure about, it was that the item shouldn’t end up with the Light Faction in the current state it was in.

Grabbing the Golden Globe, she took it off from the podium, and it was held in her hands. The podium started to sink into the ground. With it held in her hands, she took a deep breath as she said her next sentence.

“Dark Magus… I’m handing the Golden Globe… to you.”

Dark Magus Returns

Chapter 1038: The Real Test

Hearing the words come out from Beatrix’s mouth, Impress felt like she was going to faint on the spot. Right after, her whole body was shaking with a myriad of emotions.

“How, how can you be so foolish? Do you even know what you are saying!” Impress shouted. “That man is the person who is in control of the Dark Faction and the Demonic Faction. Without that item, Alter won’t help us.”

“You have also learned what that item can do. With it, he could even summon those from his world to come in and get rid of those on Pagna!”

Although Ricar wasn’t as expressive as Impress in her thoughts, he also was quite shocked at what Beatrix was doing.

“It seems that Henio was right after all, that something like this would happen. It’s always interesting how right that guy is,” Red said to himself, with his arms folded, seemingly not caring either way about where the item would go.

It wasn’t just them that were surprised; Raze himself didn’t understand what was happening either. He had little to no interactions with Beatrix on this island. Sure, he had met her a couple of times before, but they hadn’t talked to each other or had full-on conversations for her to suddenly do this?

“Why?” Ricar eventually asked. “Has the Dawnblade Clan not treated you correctly? Have I done something wrong that has pushed you away from the Light Faction?”

For Beatrix, hearing Ricar’s voice was perhaps the most painful to her. He was her mentor, the person who had even recommended her to become one of the elders in the Dawnblade clan. She could tell that her actions pained him.

“That’s not it. It’s because of the teachings of the Light Faction that I believe what I am doing now is the right choice,” Beatrix explained. “We all saw it, that man, Raze Cromwell, the Dark Magus, is not from our world.”

“This is an item that has the power to change our world, and although he has done many things, the things he has done in Pagna have nothing to do with us. Everyone else has a reason to use this item for no good, and for it to be used to harm Pagna but not him.”

“His anger was strong, and his anger was towards those that are still in his homeworld. I believe with this item, he might even leave this world in the end. As quickly as he came, he will be gone.”

Beatrix then walked up to him with the Golden Globe in hand. But even if she did have the item now and was free to do with it as she wished, it wasn’t as if she could just hand the item through the barrier.

“I remember when we first met,” Beatrix said. “You were incredibly weak at the time. It seems around that time you might have just come to this world. You have progressed far in gaining power. It has been a short amount of time, especially for Pagna warriors.

“You have your own problems to deal with, and we have ours. Which is why I wish to ask you, if I hand you this item, to promise to leave the Light Faction in peace. To do what you must, don’t worry about Pagna, leave that in our hands, to those in Pagna… and complete what you must.”

When Raze looked into Beatrix’s eyes and heard her speak, it reminded him deeply of another individual. How could anyone give an item on the consensus of a spoken promise? In a world where promises were broken daily.

A world where those from the Dark Faction were taught to do whatever they could in order to win. This person in front of him, Beatrix reminded him far too much of his late wife Sabraina.

“People like you are too good for this world,” Raze mumbled, but it was loud enough for even Beatrix to hear it, making her cheeks flush red.

“Did you hear that, Ricar? Beatrix has met with this person before. It seems that the two of them were working together from the beginning!” Impress shouted.

Although it was quite normal to think that in a situation like this, Ricar didn’t think so. Because if that was the case, when the vision showed the darkest moments of Beatrix’s life, it would have shown that as well.

The decision Beatrix had made was a decision that she had made right now.

‘Interesting,’ Lince thought, watching the whole thing unfold. ‘Maybe this was the true test by the founder after all. The test allowed the right person to get their hands on the Golden Globe. But it didn’t state that they had to keep it for themselves.

‘By all of us choosing Beatrix, it allowed the choice to be left in her hands. The founder would have never been able to make the right decision himself. So he left it to the best person of those present.’

“Do you remember where we first met, the exit point?” Beatrix said. “In a week and a half from now, I will meet you there with the Golden Globe. Come alone.”

Raze understood. Exiting from the portal, there were the snowy mountains between the border of the Light Faction and the Demonic Faction. No one else currently there, even if they could hear, would they know where that place was?

The troubling part was Beatrix having to last that long with the item in her hands, and no one finding out that she had gotten her hands on it.

“You are making a big mistake!” Impress shouted. “This is a betrayal of the Light Faction. The Dawnblade Clan will not protect you. You will be chased by all of those in the Light Faction. Once someone betrays a faction, they have nowhere to go!”

Beatrix knew all of the consequences of what she was about to do.

“I’ll see you then,” Beatrix claimed as she walked off and headed toward the center.

“Alright, I’ve waited long enough,” Mosak said, lifting his hand against the barrier. “Unfortunately, I can’t let that happen.”

With his hand glowing yellow, his fingers had pierced right through the barrier. Then right after, he dragged it open until he could reach another hand in. Then pushing to the side with both of his hands, the barrier around him had completely shattered, particles falling to the

floor.
